Curly, coily and wavy hair in Brockton

Curls cut dry, one at a time

Rizo Curl Studio is a small studio on Belmont Street. We look at your hair as it is, cut it curl by curl and teach you how to style it at home, in English or Spanish.

How a visit works

Look, cut and teach

Three parts of one visit, all with your hair dry and in its own shape.

  • A client with natural curls sits in a cape while a stylist's hands lift a section

    Look

We start by looking: your curl pattern, where it springs, your routine and the photos you bring.

  • A client with a short tapered natural cut as a stylist's hands shape the curls at her temple

    Cut

Your stylist cuts dry, curl by curl, and checks the shape as it falls.

  • A smiling client with long dark curls looks back as a stylist's hands scrunch product through them

    Teach

You learn how to wash, define and dry your curls, with the products you already own.

The studio

Four people, one small studio

Three stylists and a front desk, with Spanish and English at every chair. Book with the person you want.

    Bernarda Disla

    Front desk and shampoo

Bernarda greets you, keeps the book and washes your hair before the cut. She speaks Spanish and English.

How pricing works

We don't print prices, because curls aren't priced off a list. Here is what sets yours.

  • What the consultation covers

The consultation is 30 minutes with a stylist, with your hair dry and as it is. We look at your curl pattern, your routine and your history, and you leave with a plan and a time estimate.

  • Each stylist has a level, and the level sets the price: the owner, a senior stylist, or a stylist. The booking page shows each stylist's level and what it means for your service.

    • Owner

    • Senior stylist

    • Stylist

  • Deposits

Longer services, such as the dry curl cut, the twist-out and color, take a deposit that holds your time and goes toward your service. The booking page shows it before you pay.

  • Curls are priced by what they ask of the stylist, not by a list. A quote comes before color, and the booking page shows the price for the stylist and service you choose.

    • Length and density

    • Your curl pattern and what you want

    • Color, if any

    • Your stylist's level

    • Time the service takes

Wash day

Wash, detangle and define

A wash day in our chair, then a lesson for yours.

We wash and detangle in the basin, then define your curls with a wash-and-go, finger coils or a twist-out, diffused or air-dried. Ask about a conditioning mask while you sit.

Questions

Before your first cut

Should I come with my hair washed?

No. Come with it dry, in the style you usually wear it, even if it is day three. We need to see your curls as they are.

I don't know my curl type. Does that matter?

No. Tell us the words you use, rizado, ondulado, crespo, curly, wavy or coily, and we will use yours.

How long does a dry curl cut take?

Plan on an hour and a half to two hours: the look, the cut and the lesson. Each service on the menu lists its own duration.

Do you straighten hair?

Yes, when you ask for it: a blowout or a silk press. We just don't start there, and we will tell you how your curl tends to come back.

Can I bring my own products?

Please do. Bring what you use now, along with your tools and any photos. We start from your routine and change only what needs changing.
